Job Location:New JerseyPosition:Exempt / SalaryReports To:Sr. Vice President of Business Development and TechnologyManages: N/AJob Overview:This role supports the formulation and development of lubricants and coatings for the industrial metal production market. Specifically, this role supports developing new products in the metal forging, casting and extrusion fields (Aluminum, steal, wire drawing etc.). The development manager will lead a team of scientists to expand the existing Asbury product lines in coatings and dispersions. The development manager will work closely with, and support, the business development (BD) group by supplying products for the opportunities the BD group initiates.Roles & Responsibilities:Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:Development of SOPs for safe practice of development in the labDevelopment of new formulated products to address customer issues in the metal forging, casting and extrusion marketsHire and manage a group of world class scientists to develop the above products.Manage and track the development projects against clearly defined key performance indicators to insure fast delivery of new products to the marketSupport the roll out of products at the customer sites to enable successful implementation of the product with the business development team.Technical talks at leading industry conferences and trade shows to highlight the new products that Asbury is developing.Testing of the generated coatings and dispersions using industry standard test protocols/methods and development of novel lab scale testing methods to show how the Asbury products outperform our competitors’ products.Preferred Experience/skills:Qualifications include:PhD. or Masters in a technical field related to industrial lubricants and coatings (Chemical Engineering preferred)5-10 years of industry experience in the industrial lubricants and coatings fieldStrong understanding of how to formulate liquid coatings includingKnowledge of mixing best practicesWide breadth of knowledge of the common dispersing, thickening, binding, flash rust inhibitors in the industryStrong relationships with vendors for the above formula componentsStrength in design of experiment and how to quickly go from problem statement to hypothesis to experimental design to solve problem and confirm hypothesisStrong knowledge of common coatings application test methods (Tribology, metal corrosion, hardness, etc.)Strong technical presentation skillsExcellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.A team-oriented, collaborative work style.Initiative and the ability to work independently and make autonomous decisions.Strong interpersonal skills.Experience collaborating and partnering with internal and external stakeholders.Availability to work evenings and weekends as needed.Must be willing to travel as required.Strong computer skills including, but not limited to, MS Office.Working conditionsWillingness to do overnight travel is requiredPosition Type and Expected Hours of WorkFull time day hours; travel and occasional overtime may extend hours10 Key Core Competencies:Analytical ThinkingProblem SolvingComputer CompetencyConflict ResolutionEvaluationFlexibilityEthicsInterpersonal AwarenessPersonal CredibilityThoroughnessNote: This job description is not designed to cover or contain a comprehensive listing of activities, duties or responsibilities that are required of the employee for this job.
